IGI2 - Border Crossing walkthrough

I used to do this mission by killing everybody else BEFORE I took out the two guards standing by the transmission equipment. Then, I'd come back and kill them, use the equipment, then make a bee-line straight for the end. But, that took me about 12-15 minutes. When I saw that you had to do it under 6 minutes I didn't know what to think. So, I did it this way and actually ended up OVER THE END FENCE BEFORE the helicopter even landed. Here's how you do it.

When the mission starts, immediately run to where the 3 guards are standing. Stop before you get to the edge of the tree line else the sniper on the backside of the truck turns to investigate. Crouchwalk up to that sniper and stab him with your knife. Breaking his neck takes too much time and there are two patrols coming straight for your position. Grab his sniper rifle and lay flat.

Crawl to a position just to the left of where you are at so that you can fire a single bullet through both of the guards on the other side of the truck. Shoot them both with a single shot. Get up and RUN to the equipment and use it. Taking out the two guards by the equipment triggers an incoming helicopter to drop off a whole bunch of guys between you and the endpoint.

Once you've used the equipment immediately RUN along the treeline to your left and head straight down the center. Be careful because there is a patrol over the hillside to your left AND there is another patrol just coming over the hill on your right heading down to the transmission equipment.

Keep running! When you leave the treeline on the left, head straight out across the first field going straight for the center of the woodline up ahead. While you are running, a helicopter will fly over your position from behind you and the machine-gunner in the copter will start shooting at you. So, when you hear the helicopter coming up from behind you and bullets richocheting all over the place, dive to a crawl and get our your sniper rifle. Drill the guard ahead off to your left.

When the helicopter flies off ahead of you, get back up and start running again straight for the middle of the woodline ahead. Don't worry about the other snipers along the outer edges of the woods. Keep running until you reach those woods. Be careful because there is an Armored Vehicle coming up the woodline to your right.

At this point, you've made it into the woods and you are behind both patrols who are now searching the first area trying to figure out who wasted their 3 guys guarding the transmission equipment. And you've gotten behind the line of snipers. Keep moving!

When you exit out the other side of the woods, you'll see some bushes in the the field ahead. You'll also see the chopper hovering past those bushes. Keep running straight through those bushes and use them to block the machine-gunner from seeing you. Keep moving until you come out the other side of those bushes and have to cross the last open area. Be careful here because there is an Armored Vehicle slowly coming over the hill to your right. And, there is one approaching from the road off to your left. DON'T RUN WITH THE CHOPPER HOVING RIGHT THERE! The machine gunner will drill you clean through! Run a bit past the bushes and then dive to a crawl.

Keep crawling in a zig-zag pattern. Eventually, the chopper will hover forward a bit then start to land. When the chopper starts to descend, get up and start running again. Run straight through the bushes up ahead which are right in front of the entrance to the exit area.

You have to get into the entrance of the exit area BEFORE the patrol standing in the bushes off to your RIGHT starts patrolling. They only start patrolling when the chopper lands. Keep moving!

By now, you're heading straight down the leftside of the entrance to the exit-area and the chopper has landed. The patrol in the bushes off to the right of the entrance area has started running around crazy. Keep moving!

Run down the entrance. Follow it to the left then it veers right. Cut diagonally across and just as you turn right, run along the right-side of the rope. Be sure to keep those trees up ahead directly between you and the sniper in the tower in front of you. Part way down the rope-line, dive to the ground and quickly pull out your sniper rifle. Snipe the guard in the tower clean through the chest. Get up and toss your rifle. You won't need it anymore.

Run straight to the fence by the bottom of the tower. Climb the fence! If you've done everything fast enough, you'll actually get over the fence BEFORE your rescue helicopter lands! Mission accomplished.

Lots of running in this mission but the trick is to keep moving even when you are crawling. And, make sure that you crawl in a zig-zag pattern while the machine gunner in the chopper has got you in his sights. You have to get into the entrance to the very last area BEFORE that chopper lands else the patrol on the right of the entrance to that last area will find you before you can snipe the guy in the tower and get over the fence.

One last trick.. You'll run much faster if you're carrying your knife.

I did this mission in 4:24 without being seen and 100% accuracy.

Actually, I've done this mission in exactly the same time as you:-) Once again, very good walkthrough! My only suggestion: I would rather kill the first three guys by simply using the knife, since killing them with Dragunov causes the patrol on the right to investigate... It may cost you a couple of seconds, but it's still safer I guess...

I've always wondered how Jones survived falling out of a moving helicopter? (in the cut scene at the beginning of this level.) I mean, even if he hit trees on the way down he'd still kinda get ***cked up, wouldn't he?

I completed this mission in 4:17 . see attached photo.
Prob. of sucess 10/10.

I used line to line direction to follow path except in first objective.
I.e. I killed that first sniper guy behind truck.
Then i killed remaining two guards behind radio stn. using single shot.
And then i follow straight path from objective 1 to 2(last) running in the middle of ground but using timing well.

Killing one more sniper guy in between the run is imp.(though can be avoided but path becomes curved taking more time)

killing tower guard is not so imp. This can be avoided by running on close left side of mine so sniper can be thrown while running or after kiiling sniper guy from last end of bush of middle right side(place exactly where first helicopter goes from top left side).

Also using timing of running while second helicopter lands(same as discussed in forum but from the middle of the map)

I have to say, I find this level rather unchallenging... You know, the trick is to just run like a rabbit straight towards that small valley between the 4 snipers and the 5 stationary guards, and then lie flat AS SOON as the helicopter starts firing at you (sometimes, you'll be hit, sometimes you won't). After that, all you need to do is to crawl and then guess the right moment when to stand up - and you know the rest... So summed it up, your achieved time virtually depends on finding the soonest possible moment when to stand up...

P.S. I know that Jones runs a bit faster without his primary weapon (i.e. Dragunov, AK47, Minimi, etc.), but DOES HE RUN FASTER WITHOUT CARRYING HIS SIDEARMS (i.e. Makarov, Socom, G17, etc.) OR GRENADES??? You know, I haven't tried this yet...

I know this isn't related to the Border Crossing level, but I've just recently found out that IT'S INDEED POSSIBLE TO ENTER THE HOTEL BUILDING IN THE LIBYAN RENDEZVOUS LEVEL WITHOUT ALERTING THE SNIPERS ON THE ROOFS & THE 3 GUARDS INSIDE! Try to find a way!

You certainly catch my words as far as border crossing is considered. Your observation is 100% correct. I was finding the way that avoids creeping when second helicopter arrives. I did once with 3:25 time but CAUGHT ONE IN MY LEG
at the last run inside the mine-path. So i believe there is a way that avoids LIE FLAT condition...

As far as speed is concerned, primary weapon certainly decreases the running speed(by much) not only that type of the weapon also affects the speed. PSG is heaviest to carry(but it do not affects much).I think this effect is observable while crouching and not running.Secondary weapon should have not decreased the speed but selection of the same should have decreased the speed that was i beleiving(body shakes while running with knife).This is because Aim pointer that breaks the running style but to my surprise it also decreased the speed. I dont understand how secondary weapon decreases the speed. Only Selecting and carrying the knife increases the speed to the maximum.

Here is my conclusion which starts with heaviest load and minimum RUNNING speed.
- All types of weapons and gun like PSG with slection of primary.
-All types of weapons and other primary weapons with selection of primary.
- All types of weapons and other primary weapons with selection of secondary.
-All types of weapons and other primary weapons with selection of knife.
-no primary weapons with selection of secondary.
-no primary weapons with selection knife.
-no primary weapons and secondary weapons with selection of knife.

NOTE: orders of last three are confirmed experimentally. otther considerations
like bombs,number of bombs,proximines,medipec etc are not considered.Top four orders are yet to be verified but most likely be same.

Last conclusion: It seems that this program(game) is using inverse relationship between weight and speed.so as weight increases,It decreases the running speed which raises the question that How carrying only secondary weapon decreases the speed in realism?.. What is the logic?

Thanks for tips. Yes, I found that lying flat during the last part of the mission was the most effective for not getting hit. Otherwise I kept getting hit by a sniper that I could not see or locate.

I assume you must've skipped the first 2 objectives in order to achieve such time, am I right? Anyway, I'll have another try soon!

In my opinion, This is ultimate record that can be achieved for this mission with high degree of probability.here is some states..

Time:Between 4:00 to 4:15; prob. of success- 9/10; Prob. of record-6/10
Time:Between 3:30 to 4:00; Prob. of success- 8/10; Prob. of record-1/10
Time:Between 3:00 to 3:30; Prob. of success- 8/10; Prob. of record-1/20

Here is conclusion:
For first case conversion ratio is good. If you make it 9 times,out of that ,failure of record is only 3 and 6 time u can do in time.

Remaining record time are just matter of luck due to random nature of movement of guards.

This is ultimate record because mission is completed out of normal story line of the game. JUST A MIRACLE....

To skorocel:
You are very smart.You can have a try before i post that ultimate walkthrough.still i need a way to complete within 4:00 min. All i can say is that record(within 4:00) is matter of luck by my method but surely achievable
in 4:15..

But seriously, I'll soon try to beat the level in both "normal" (i.e. completing all the required objectives) and "dirty" (i.e. skipping the first 2 objectives) ways to see what time I can achieve...

Anyway, to keep this forum tidy, I've decided that it will be better to post our thoughts about the Libyan Rendezvous level where it belongs - i.e. in the Libyan Rendezvous walkthrough originally started by peblair, OK? I'll soon post my thoughts about that "dirty" way there, so be ready!

Hum, In that case i obey forum tidiness but i normally i don't follow the rules
you know that.

To IGI_HERO:
Find other way that avoids sniper guy on top of the building in front of hotel.
